Hanneke Francken’s lithograph series entitled Synthesis is detailed and dynamic. She makes use of an expressive and at the same time poetic imagery. Francken is fascinated by the cycle of life and uses patterns and symbols from (art) history to express this. In her drawings this results in themes like mythology, nature, evolution and eternity. They are woven together in a richly illustrated universe with, among others, birds, game and vegetation. By zooming in on a microworld, as if viewed under a microscope, the lithographs reflect a confluence from which new life emerges. The context or location of the images does not play a role. Elements from various places and times are swept together within one frame that displays multiple perspectives.
